As soon as you get home from the dealership with your truck you can modify your truck for free to get more HP. A large gain in HP can be found in your stock air intake system. All it takes is a little guts because you will be cutting on your new truck. The goal will be to cut the bottom out of your factor air box. This will let your intake system pull air from other then your finder. First thing you will need to do is remove the lid from your air box. Disconnecting your MAF might be a easy idea to get more room. Then pull the bottom of the air box out of the truck. The bottom of the box is held in place with 2 push pins. This should come out with no trouble. As you look at the bottom of the box you will see a tube that comes from the bottom intake hole. We will be removing this. Remove the foam from the bottom hole on the outside of the box. You should see the locks on the tube that holds the tube in place. Push the tube together to unlock the locks. The tube should pull out. Turn the box over and plan your cutting. In the pictures you can see where I cut my boxes. You might decide to only cut the front side of the box (The side that faces the front of the truck). I cut both sides to help pull in the most air I could get. I use air cutters but a hack-saw should work. After the holes are cut out, remove all plastic burs with a file. On some of the stock air intake systems there is a void box that is connected to the intake tube. This box will slow down the intake air and decrease HP. To remove this box you will have to drill out the two rivets and loosen the hose clamp. Once the box is removed you can replace it with a top off of a spray paint can. Tighten the hose clamp so that the cap does not move and reinstall the air intake tube. Place the box back into the truck and connect everything back up. We could tell a big difference and I know you will too.
