There is tons of hidden HP in your computer. Hypertech, Jet, and other after market companies give you access to modify your computer to its max output performance. In this write up I will only be talking about the Hypertech products.
All S10 trucks from year 1996 and up are installed with the new type of computer system called ODB2. One way these computer settings can be changed is with the aid of the Hypertech Programmer. This device plugs into your computer port that is located under your steering wheel at the bottom of your dash. The programmer comes with a cable that connects from this port to the programmer. Once connected there is a series of actions you must do to configure the computer. All the actions are included in the Hypertech directions. With this tool you are able to adjust your shift points, speed limiter, rev limited, adjust for different size tires, adjust for different gear ratios, adjust for a cooler thermostat, and better ignition with a simple yes or no answer. There are also other settings that the program changes automatically. The Hypertech programmer will install these new setting on your trucks computer and will save the factory setting on the programmer itself. The programmer can only be used on one vehicle and remembers the VIN# of the vehicle that the program is in. Programmers will unlock hidden HP from your trucks computer. The programmer will cost $325 and up.
